Why Reddit videos usually lose sound
On v.redd.it, the video track and audio track are two separate files served from two URLs. Saving the video the obvious way gets you the picture only.
Crossposts and links to other sites are a different case: a post linking to YouTube or Imgur isn't hosting the file itself, so it can't be fetched here.

- Private and quarantined subreddits can't be fetched.
- Posts that only link elsewhere (YouTube, Imgur, Streamable) aren't Reddit-hosted — download from that site instead.

Rights and fair use
Reddit posts are frequently reuploads of someone else's work. Personal viewing is generally fine.
Tracing the real creator before reusing anything publicly is on you — the poster often isn't the owner.
